Description
Last year, Angel Olsen's album Big Time led her to a more profound and authentic sense of self. Born from the dual forces of grief and love, it offered a beautiful sense of certainty, the confident sound of an artist finally at peace with herself. However, this wisdom also brought the realization that life has no finish line, no fixed destination. Forever Means compiles songs from the Big Time sessions centered around this theme. As Olsen puts it, these songs are 'in search of something else.'
Olsen recalls, 'I was traveling, stopped for a few days, and wandered the city. I wondered, 'What does 'forever' truly mean? What am I seeking in friendship or love? How can 'forever' be achievable when we're constantly changing?' Sitting with the reality of this change, she realized that 'maybe the secret to lasting love is to embrace change as part of love itself, that forever involves playing, looking, and constantly exploring, never thinking you're done learning.'
'Forever,' Olsen says, 'stays curious while being kind and honest.' The four precious songs in Forever Means capture Olsen's past and future journeys. 'Nothing’s free / like breaking free,' she sings, at ease with the costs of her clarity, her heart and voice focused on the present, future, and the unknown.',
