Description

A must - have for fans of Delia Derbyshire and the BBC Radiophonic Workshop! This is the very first official release of Inventions For Radio. It comes in a full lidded box set that includes 6 LPs and a 20 - page booklet. Between January 1964 and September 1965, the BBC’s Third Programme aired four radio broadcasts named Inventions for Radio. These broadcasts, conceived by playwright Barry Bermange, were revolutionary. They featured the voices of the general public answering questions on themes like dreams, the existence of God, life after death, and ageing. At a time when it was rare to give a media platform to those of low socio - economic status, the broadcasts got many complaints because of the participants' 'rough' voices. Delia Derbyshire from the Radiophonic Workshop edited and added electronic music and effects. The result is a dreamy and captivating audio experience, offering a window to another era. For years, Derbyshire wasn't credited for her work, and the broadcasts weren't commercially available, yet they still gained a cult following. This box set has one LP for each broadcast and two more LPs of extra material. The 20 - page booklet has in - depth notes by Mark Ayres and David Butler, providing fascinating insights into Derbyshire’s archive, her music, and her collaboration with Bermange, giving context to these long - awaited 20th - century classics.

How to use: Simply put the LP on your record player and enjoy the unique audio experience. Remember to handle the LPs gently to avoid scratches. When not in use, keep the LPs in their protective sleeves inside the box set. The booklet can be read at any time to learn more about the background of the recordings. Maintenance tips: Clean the LPs regularly with a record cleaning brush. Store the box set in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight to prevent damage to the vinyl and the booklet. If you notice any dust on the LPs, use a soft, anti - static cloth to wipe it off before playing.
