2001 is Dr. Dre's second studio album, released on November 16, 1999, by Interscope Records as a follow - up to The Chronic. Produced mainly by Dr. Dre and Mel - Man, with contributions from Lord Finesse, it features top rappers like The D.O.C., Snoop Dogg, Eminem, etc. It expands on Dre's G - funk sound and has gangsta rap themes. Debuting at number 2 on the U.S. Billboard 200, it sold 550,000 copies in the first week, had 3 successful singles, and is 6× Platinum certified by the RIAA, with 7.8 million copies sold in the U.S. as of August 2015.
