Description
This is a special limited - edition recycled LP. It's signed, numbered from 1 to 1000, and comes with a piece of the original planted tape after its UK premiere, along with an authenticity certificate. Erland Cooper's new album 'Carve the Runes Then Be Content With Silence' will hit the shelves on the Autumn equinox, September 20, 2024, following its live premiere at The Barbican in London on June 8. Three years ago, the only master tape was buried deep in the Scottish Highlands and Islands of Orkney, and all digital copies were deleted. The album will be released exactly as it sounds from the earth. It's a new three - movement work for solo violin and string ensemble. After digitization, the composer will finish the score for live performance in true collaboration with nature. The piece commemorates the centenary of celebrated Orcadian poet George Mackay Brown, as 2021 marked 100 years since his birth. Inspired by natural landscapes and thoughts on time, hope, community, and patience, the sole recording on ¼ - inch magnetic tape (with digital files permanently deleted) was planted to be 'recomposed' by the earth before exhumation and release. The composer revealed clues every equinox for fans and the record label to find it. In 2022, Victoria and Dan Rhodes found the tape. The album will be digitized on the spring equinox in a filmed ceremony and released as it sounds from the earth, with nature contributing to the composition. The final score will be performed by live musicians at special concerts in the UK, Europe, and America. Note that the design of additional elements is subject to finalization and may vary slightly from the image.
