Dana Margolin says all the songs on Porridge Radio's new 2024 album, Clouds In The Sky: Always There For Me, began as poems. She wanted to challenge herself, as poems strip away the musical tricks found in songs. Recorded in the Somerset countryside by Dom Monks, an engineer known for working with Big Thief and Laura Marling, this is the UK band's first new music in two years. It's a coming - of - age album inspired by burnout, the music industry, relationship breakdowns, and Dana's growth as an artist. Many songs on the album explore a frenetic and desperate kind of love. For example, 'In A Dream I’m A Painting' took on new meanings as Margolin re - evaluated it. Recording these intimate songs in Frome at the start of 2024 was an emotional experience, with Dana having breakdowns during the sessions. The recording environment was warm and nurturing, with communal meals every night. The studio was bright, filled with natural light, and the band could record in the same room as the producer. Dana is thrilled with the album, saying it captured their friendship and how they play together. It has taught her valuable lessons about following her instincts and trusting her friends.
