This double vinyl LP set of Freaks comes with a bonus disc filled with singles and b - sides from the Freaks era. Since Pulp's debut 'It', the band had changed a lot. By this time, all members except Jarvis had left, but the addition of Russell Senior was a crucial turning point. Pulp's sound was no longer pastoral and easy - going; instead, it was darkly romantic, brooding, noisy, and a bit Gothic, much like young people with a certain hairstyle. Pulp was out of step with the times, but the times couldn't satisfy them. This album is truly wonderful. Most of these songs have withstood the test of time. It was here, perhaps even more than in 1992's Separations, that Pulp began to develop their unique aesthetic. The first disc is the unaltered original album in full. The bonus second disc includes tracks from two major non - album singles of the same era, 'Little Girl (With Blue Eyes)' and 'Dogs are Everywhere', along with two b - sides, 'Tunnel' and 'Manon', making it the definitive release for the 'Freaks' period.
