Description
In the five years since Will Butler's debut album Policy, he's had an eventful journey. He's toured globally solo and as part of Arcade Fire, released the Friday Night live album, and recorded the international #1 album Everything Now with Arcade Fire. He also earned a master's in public policy from Harvard, hosted town - halls on local issues, and raised his three children. Amidst all this, he found the time to create a new album, Generations. Butler says, 'My first record, Policy, was like a book of short stories. Generations is more of a novel - despairing, funny, and a bit epic.' The album constantly asks, 'What's my place in American history and present?' as a participant in current events and in his specific roles. While the songs on Generations carry dread and regret, there's a lightness in Butler's music. This brightness is most intense when he performs on stage with his solo band. The album features wild synth production, gnarly bass synths with live drums, and anthemic backing vocals, like in the first single 'Surrender', interspersed with intimate moments. 'Generations' was recorded and produced by Butler in his Brooklyn basement. Half was mixed in Montreal by Mark Lawson and the other half by Shiftee. This album starts a dialogue with the world, posits answers, and navigates the conversation to find the truth or a way forward.
