Description
Texas - bred singer - songwriter and Big Thief guitarist Buck Meek is releasing his new album, Haunted Mountain, on August 25. It's his first for 4AD. He also shares the lead single and title track, 'Haunted Mountain', co - written with his friend and hero Jolie Holland. After his well - loved 2021 album, Two Saviors, Haunted Mountain is Meek's third solo album. It explores love and something greater, a soulfulness that contrasts with but doesn't challenge love. Meek finds love songs hard to write, saying 'actual love songs in earnest are taboo now'. The lead single has sweet lyrics from Meek and Holland, with Holland writing the first two verses and chorus as a love song to Mount Shasta, and Meek penning the final verse. The song is about seeking a fair relationship with nature. There's a great in - studio video directed by Riley Engemoen. The album was recorded near the Franklin Mountains, with songs written in various mountainous places where Meek's new love was born. Love on the album takes natural, artificial, and cosmic forms, extending beyond romance. Buck's consistent band includes Adam Brisbin, Austin Vaughn, and Mat Davidson. Ken Woodward and Meek's brother Dylan joined for the recording. Produced by Davidson, it was recorded and mixed in two weeks by Adrian Olsen, with sound manipulation on modular synthesizer. The goal was a hi - fi album that contrasts with Two Saviors while keeping intimacy. Tracklisting: 1. Mood Ring; 2. Haunted Mountain; 3. Paradise; 4. Cyclades; 5. Secret Side; 6. Didn't Know You Then; 7. Undae Dunes; 8. Where You're Coming From; 9. Lullabies; 10. Lagrimas; 11. The Rainbow.
