Released on August 6th, 1965, just eight months after Beatles For Sale, the recording of Help! began in mid - February, one month after the guys finished 'Another Beatles Christmas Show' at London's Hammersmith Odeon. Right after the final February session, they went to the Bahamas to film for the movie, directed by Richard Lester like 'A Hard Day's Night'. From the Bahamas, they traveled to Obertauern in Austria and then back to the UK for more filming. A new single, 'Ticket To Ride', was released on April 9th and promoted through various TV performances and an appearance at the NME Poll - winners concert. Filming continued until mid - June, and then The Beatles returned to Abbey Road to finalize the non - soundtrack material for the album. On June 12th, 1965, they were awarded MBE's in the Queen's birthday honours list. Similar to A Hard Day's Night, side one of the Help! album features songs from the film, and side two has new recordings including two covers. Different from it, the pre - and concurrent singles have exclusive B - sides. Help! also marks George Harrison's comeback as a songwriter, contributing one song to each side.
