Description
I Was Trying to Describe You to Someone is Wednesday's second full - length album and their first as a complete band. This Asheville, NC quintet, featuring guitarist/vocalist Karly Hartzman, lead guitarist Daniel Gorham, pedal steel guitarist Xandy Chelmis, bassist Margo Schultz, and drummer Alan Miller, uses the dark dissonance of a three - guitar attack. It highlights Hartzman's clear vocals, half - remembered memories, and literary references in her lyrics. The eight songs blend shoegaze, grunge, indie pop, and southern American culture into a unique modern rock style full of power and tenderness.
The album's evolving and deepening sound is influenced by The Swirlies, Arthur Russell, Red House Painters, and others. MJ Lenderman provides backing vocals on 'Billboard' and 'November'. Recorded at Hartzman's home with engineering help from her roommate Colin Miller, the recordings balance the band's live distortion with the intimacy of Hartzman's voice. Her words stand out clearly.
Hartzman says her lyrics are inspired by writers like Richard Brautigan and movies like Steel Magnolias, aiming to do justice to old personal memories through prose.
To enjoy this vinyl LP, simply place it on a record player. Make sure the player is clean and the stylus is in good condition. Play it at the correct speed (usually 33 1/3 RPM). When handling the vinyl, hold it by the edges to avoid fingerprints and scratches. After each use, put the record back in its sleeve to protect it from dust. Store the LP in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight to prevent warping. If the vinyl gets dirty, you can use a record cleaning brush to gently remove dust particles.
