Description
Johannesburg, the city where dreams either flourish or fade, is a wellspring of diverse sonic currents. 'Indaba Is', a 2 - LP vinyl collection, showcases newly recorded music that challenges each generation to explore the art of musical expression. Produced by pianist Thandi Ntuli and The Brother Moves On bandleader Siyabonga Mthembu, it offers a fresh perspective. Recording during isolation became an act of connection and care, capturing a vibrant music - making culture. Here, bands are dynamic creators of musical concepts. Recorded mostly at Dyertribe Studio near Johannesburg, 'Indaba Is' propels South African bands into a new musical frontier. Jazz serves as a starting point, not a limitation. The collection features eight tracks from artists like Bokani Dyer, Lwanda Gogwana, and others. The artists' names are gateways for ideas, not strict ownership markers. Ntuli and Mthembu played key roles, producing four tracks and facilitating others. This approach often yields amazing results. Rooted in indigenous knowledge, 'Indaba Is' makes us think about the work ahead. Johannesburg, a city with a unique history, sounds both world - weary and ready to break free. 'Indaba Is' is a musical crucible, tough to define yet warm to the soul.
