“All our dreamers lose to the light” - from “Angels Go Home”. When the pandemic hit and the world stopped, so did Sam Beam of Iron & Wine's creative process. He found domesticity but not the muse for music. Reflecting on that time, Beam said the pandemic paralyzed his songwriting for over two years. The journey back started with recording Lori McKenna tracks in Memphis with Matt Ross - Spang. This experience rekindled his love for music, leading to Light Verse. Light Verse was recorded at Waystation in Laurel Canyon by Dave Way, with an additional session at Silent Zoo Studio with a 24 - piece orchestra. Many talented musicians joined Beam, and Fiona Apple sang on “All In Good Time”. Beam's lyrics offer fictional and personal insights, with desperate characters and optimists, bringing heartache, laughter, life, and love. The album title might seem comical, but it reflects the joy after the pandemic's heaviness. Unlike recent records, these songs focus on acceptance. Light Verse is Iron & Wine's seventh full - length album and fifth for Sub Pop Records, arriving on April 26th. It's a lovingly handmade album. Tracklist: 1. You Never Know 2. Anyone's Game 3.
