Description
Primitive Ignorant was born from the idea of massive bass and a deep dive into history - both Sym Gharial's and Britain's. Sym, from 80s Matchbox B-Line Disaster, tells his story in Sikh Punk. Growing up as a Sikh in Ladbroke Grove, he found his place in punk rock, but also faced addiction and racism. This album traces the return of racism fueled by Brexit back to the arrogance of Colonialism. Sym rejected his Sikh roots, bleached his skin, and went through a tough time, but then completed a redemptive arc. He's been clean for ten years and embraced his Sikh identity again. Inspired by his favorite Clash album, Sandinista, Sikh Punk ventures into new musical genres. Without guitars, it carves out a heavy - pop sound, driven by bass with R&B production touches. Sym isn't a singer, so he gets others to sing his personal lyrics. International Teachers Of Pop's Leonore, The War On Drugs' Jon, IDLES’ Joe Talbot, Mick Jones from The Clash, and many others lend their voices. There are found sounds from Portobello Market, and the album is mastered by Barry, known for big - name records. The limited vinyl edition has a sleeve by Steve Gullick and a Ballad video he shot.
To enjoy this Sikh Punk 180 - gram red vinyl LP, first, make sure your record player is clean and in good working condition.
