Description
Small Time Monsters, the second full - length album from The Dream Machine, is coming out this April on Run On Records/Modern Sky. If their 2022 critically - acclaimed debut Thank God! It’s The Dream Machine… was a wild child, Small Time Monsters is its polished younger sibling. It features psychedelia, euphoric choruses, surf guitar flashes and B - movie references, all set against the backdrop of their beloved seaside town New Brighton. This time, the wild elements are tamed, with songs crafted into three - minute pocket symphonies. The lead single, Frankenstein, is an anthem for the sugar - rush generation, an earworm that combines haunted rockabilly with the sunny melodies of Blossoms. On the album, Cindy’s Eyes, a tale of unrequited love in a small town, has a chorus big enough for any arena. Produced by The Coral’s James Skelly, it was partly recorded at The Dream Machine’s rehearsal space and then finalized at Skelly’s Kempston Street Studios. Singer and main songwriter Zak McDonnell’s lyrics are more refined and literary, exploring everyday life, teenage angst, B - movie monsters, family troubles and coming - of - age stories in modern Britain. Small Time Monsters is the sound of a band breaking into the big world from a small town.
