Perth - born and Naarm - based duo Special Feelings, made up of Naomi Robinson and Poli - Pearl, dropped their first long - playing record on Bradley Zero’s Rhythm Section label on November 10, 2023. This 9 - track LP combines the energy of live improvisation, snappy broken - beat percussion, and house - inspired synth loops. It captures the collaborative vibe of Naarm’s jazz scene, featuring local rising artists. Special Feelings' sound has evolved from psychedelic rock. Initially, Naomi played guitar and sang while Poli - Pearl played drums. Now, Naomi focuses on bass and rhythms, and Poli - Pearl handles synths and keys. Their music blends Perth and London's current jazz sounds with Brainfeeder - style electronica. Their influences range from Moodymann's deep grooves to Emma Jean Thackray's free - flowing horns and Kaidi Thatham's stepping drums. Both Naomi and Poli - Pearl are self - taught multi - instrumentalists and producers. Naomi started in high - school dream pop bands, then moved to Naarm, got involved in local music, and studied classical guitar at the University of Melbourne. Tracklist: Side A - 1.
