Description
Stumpwork, the follow-up to 2021’s New Long Leg, is set for release on 21 October 2022. The South London band's first studio album, recorded in just two weeks at the iconic Rockfield Studios with producer John Parish, was a huge critical and commercial hit, reaching #4 in the UK Album Charts and featuring in numerous best-of-2021 polls. After its success, Nick Buxton (drums), Tom Dowse (guitar), Lewis Maynard (bass), and Florence Shaw (vocals) returned to rural Wales in late 2021, teaming up again with Parish and engineer Joe Jones. Working with trust in the same studio and with the same team, they overcame imposter syndrome and anxiety, embracing a new freedom to explore beyond their already diverse sonic palette and gaining confidence in their creative vision. More time in the studio allowed them to experiment, improvise, and have fun, even improving their table tennis skills. Stumpwork draws inspiration from various events, concepts, and political issues. Its surrealist lyrics focus on themes like family, money, politics, self - deprecation, and sensuality. The album combines furious alt - rock anthems with jangle pop and ambient noise, showing the band's wide range of influences and deep musicality. With the pressure of their debut album behind them, Dry Cleaning has created an ambitious and rewarding new work, establishing themselves as one of the UK's most exciting acts.
