Description

Shalom crafts strikingly direct music with emotional openness and clarity. Her debut album, Sublimation, out on March 10 via Saddle Creek, is a quiet revelation with each track. This Brooklyn - based, South Africa - raised artist fearlessly writes personal songs about her life, combining Lucy Dacus's storytelling with Indigo DeSouza's urgency. Her blunt honesty is inviting, and her lyrics clear tension for catharsis. The 13 tracks reflect different sides of herself, covering heartbreak, feeling like an outsider, self - medicating, partying, and choosing love over fear. Shalom and collaborator Ryan Hemsworth create challenging and vivid arrangements that are danceable, driving, and delicate. Since starting to write her own songs in summer 2020, Shalom has come a long way. After her band's dissolution, she overcame mourning and writer's block. Her first self - written and produced song, 'Concrete', is a beautiful track. In late 2020, she self - released early demos on an EP, which caught Ryan Hemsworth's attention. Their email collaboration quickly produced enough material for an album. Lead single 'Happenstance' shows Shalom's world - weariness, and opener 'Narcissist' is an anthemic track. Sublimation processes trauma on tracks like 'Train Station' and 'Nowadays' while maintaining resiliency. 'Did It To Myself' is ebullient and funky. Many songs on the album came together quickly, like 'Lighter' which took just 45 minutes. Despite the raw subject matter, Sublimation is an easy listen, showing Shalom's versatility, honesty, and earnestness.

Using this vinyl LP is simple. Just place it on a working record player, gently drop the needle on the start of the groove, and enjoy Shalom's amazing music. When handling the vinyl, make sure your hands are clean to avoid getting dirt or oils on the record, which could affect the sound quality. Store the LP in a cool, dry place, standing it upright in a record sleeve to prevent warping. If the record gets dirty, you can use a record cleaning brush to gently remove dust from the grooves. With proper care, you can enjoy this album for a long time.
