Description

On her debut album, Lucy Gooch remains true to her electronic origins while integrating more acoustic instruments and delving deeper into her folk roots through songwriting. Her captivating vocals are at the core of this music, with more experimentation than ever in her first full - length work. Many tracks on 'Desert Window' began as vocal improvisations that formed a narrative. Drawing inspiration from Middle English poetry like 'The Names of the Hare' and contemporary works such as 'The Hearing Trumpet' by Leonora Carrington. Gooch says, 'This became an experiment in presenting my voice in a more narrative yet oblique way.' Unlike her previous work, this album is more grounded in the real and the everyday. Her voice varies from strident to restrained and broken. 'I lost and then rediscovered my voice, which was thrilling. There were moments of energy when I'd find something new.' The album features hushed melodies and intense squalls, creating dissonance and space. It strikes an atmospheric balance, combining elements of Kate Bush and Cocteau Twins harmonies, Vangelis major chords, and folk ambience like The Third Ear Band and Goblin. It's a complex, elegant album spanning jazz, electronica, and classical song construction. Tracklist: 1. Like Clay 2. Night Window (Part One) 3. Night Window (Part Two) 4. Keep Pulling Me In 5. Jack Hare 6. Clouds 7. Our Relativity 8. Desert Window
