Description

On July 1, Sufjan Stevens is releasing two alternate versions of his song “Fourth of July” on his birthday. Both versions were recorded around 2014. “Fourth of July (April Base Version)” was recorded at Justin Vernon’s April Base studio in Eau Claire, WI, and “Fourth of July (DUMBO Version)” was recorded in Sufjan’s old Brooklyn studio. The original “Fourth of July” was on Sufjan’s 2015 album Carrie & Lowell. Sufjan often re - worked song versions during album recording, and “Fourth of July” was no exception. Other versions were released on “The Greatest Gift” mixtape and “Exploding Whale” 7" single. These latest versions were found on old hard drives. The song's refrain “We’re all gonna die” makes listeners think about human mortality and offers stoic hope. It helps listeners find comfort, connection, and even joy from pain and loss. The song has recently become popular again, maybe due to national grief and loss.

To enjoy this Fourth of July 7" single, simply play it on a compatible record player. When handling the record, make sure your hands are clean to avoid getting dirt or oil on the grooves. Store the record in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and heat to prevent warping. After each use, gently wipe the record with a soft, anti - static record brush to keep it in good condition. And most importantly, just relax and let the beautiful music of Sufjan Stevens wash over you.
