In 1971, Marc Bolan soared to superstardom, and in 1972, he reached the peak of 'T. Rexmania' or 'T. Rextasy' as the UK music scene went wild. This limited - edition red, white & blue 6LP vinyl box set pays tribute to that incredible year. For the first time, it gathers all of Bolan and T. Rex's 1972 studio recordings, broadcasts, and performances. Listeners can experience what it was like to be a T. Rex fan in 1972 with singles, albums, live concerts, radio broadcasts, and a film soundtrack. In 1972, Bolan launched a new single on his own label, The T. Rex Wax Co. 'Telegram Sam' quickly hit number 1, his third chart - topper in under 12 months. In March, T. Rex had two sold - out concerts at Wembley's Empire Pool, later featured in Ringo Starr's 'Born To Boogie' with guest appearances by Elton John and Ringo. 'Metal Guru' hit number 1 in May, followed by the classic 'The Slider' in July. The band toured the US twice that year, and Bolan did solo acoustic sessions for local radio. T. Rex was a regular on the BBC, recording special sessions for Radio 1 and Top Of The Pops. The year ended with great singles and the T. Rex Fan Club 1972 'Christmas Record' Flexi Disc. The box set comes with a 1600 - word note by producer Tony Visconti and a 12,000 - word essay by Bolan expert Mark Paytress. There are also many previously unpublished photos by Keith Morris from 1972. The set includes 'The Slider' album, 'Live At Wembley' with unreleased mixes, the full 'Born To Boogie' soundtrack, Marc Bolan's US Radio Sessions, rare BBC versions, 1972 B - sides, the fan - club flexi disc, and a 24 - page illustrated book with essays by Visconti and Paytress.
