Description
In 2023, we celebrate the 50th anniversary of David Bowie’s iconic album ALADDIN SANE. Released just ten months after his breakthrough THE RISE AND FALL OF ZIGGY STARDUST AND THE SPIDERS FROM MARS, ALADDIN SANE marked a huge musical leap. Songs like the title track, ‘Panic In Detroit,’ ‘Lady Grinning Soul,’ and ‘Time’ brought in brass, woodwind, soulful backing vocals, and Mike Garson's unique piano playing. On April 14, 2023, a week before its Golden Jubilee, a limited - edition 50th anniversary picture disc LP will be released, pressed from the same master. This new pressing of ALADDIN SANE was cut on a custom Neumann VMS80 lathe with fully recapped electronics, using 192kHz restored masters of the original tapes, with no extra processing. The album was preceded by two hit singles, ‘The Jean Genie’ and ‘Drive - In Saturday,’ which reached numbers 2 and 3 in the UK singles chart. It was Bowie’s first UK album - chart topper and also made his debut in the US top 20. The album cover, shot by Brian Duffy, features Bowie with the iconic red - and - blue lightning - bolt make - up, a cultural icon. Bowie described it as ‘Ziggy Goes To Washington.’ ALADDIN SANE was Ziggy Stardust's last stand, laid to rest after the album's release at London’s Hammersmith Odeon.
