Description
Trumpeter, bandleader, and composer Matthew Halsall, a key figure in the UK jazz renaissance, unveils his landmark new album, An Ever Changing View. Set for release on September 8th via Gondwana Records, which Halsall founded 15 years ago, this album comes ahead of a major show at The Royal Albert Hall on September 21st and UK and EU tour dates.
Halsall doesn't limit himself to one sound. In An Ever Changing View, he's at his most experimental, expanding his sound and production to craft deeply meditative music. While creating the album, he was inspired by the sea views from an architect's house and a modernist house. He aimed to capture 'the feeling of openness and escapism' and start afresh in music - making.
Halsall's music draws on spiritual jazz and contemporary electronica. An Ever Changing View blends these elements in a heady, other - worldly way. The album starts with his percussion collection, sampled and looped for the first time. It features modern jazz tracks, warm magic realism, laid - back grooves, and hip - hop beats, with Halsall's elegant trumpet shining throughout.
Tracks include Tracing Nature, Water Street, An Ever Changing View, and more.
