Birdly Serenade - Vinyl

David Murray, a jazz legend with nearly 50 years at the forefront of the genre, has re - emerged as a leading voice in 2024 with his new Quartet. His Impulse! Records debut, 'Birdly Serenade', is part of The Birdsong Project. The music draws inspiration from bird song, pre - dating human existence. Six of the eight original compositions were created at an Adirondacks artists' retreat surrounded by beautiful nature. Three poems by Francesca Cinelli guided the writing process, exploring human nature through themes of flight and the elements. Recorded at Van Gelder Studio, the spiritual home of Impulse!, the album features eight Murray - written compositions, including two sung by emerging star Ekep Nkwelle. Tracks include 'Birdly Serenade (feat. Ekep Nkwelle)', 'Bald Ego', and more.
