Cate described it as 'A mix of inescapable feelings and made - up nonsense'. A few years before its release, Cate's mother found her birth certificate and told her they'd celebrated her birthday a day off for almost three decades. This sense of misaligned reality drives Crab Day, where Cate creates a strange, almost Dadaist lyrical style to deal with an unnamed life upheaval that has left her confused.
