Please note: This album doesn't come with a bonus CD (despite what the sleeve might suggest) - it has a download card instead. Creator is the second album from the legendary Boston band The Lemonheads. It features the full original line - up of Evan Dando, Ben Deily, and Jesse Peretz, with John P. Strohm (of the Blake Babies, Antenna, and Velo - Deluxe) on drums. The album has an oddly surreal cover (a snapshot of friend and high school classmate Ivan Kreilkamp, the one who named “Lemonheads,” holding a box of Cheerios). It delves into themes of death, dreams, obsession, and mayhem, making it weird, ambitious, and moodier than its predecessor, yet still keeping the band's irreverent humor. This sophomore effort shows a new focus on idiosyncratic details, like precisely timed inter - song pauses and sound clips, and a well - crafted song order of the original 13 tracks. Ben Deily slips in quotations from Emily Dickinson and references to Matthew Arnold, while Dando raises the bar in songwriting complexity and arrangement, including the band's first acoustic recording (a cover of Charles Manson’s “Your Home Is Where You’re Happy”). The band also delivers blistering punk rock and playfully mocks Kiss’ 1977 classic “Plaster Caster.” Recorded in one continuous session, unlike its predecessors and follow - up, Creator is arguably the most coherent of the Lemonheads’ TAANG - era recordings. This Fire Records re - issue comes with bonus tracks, including never - before - released live tracks from a 1988 radio session (with a unique band configuration), an original song “Cease to Exist” never on any album, and a performance by Juliana Hatfield.
