Description

The comeback of the renowned Southern Gothic electronic group Telefon Tel Aviv is both surprising and remarkable. Their three influential albums in the 2000s - Fahrenheit Fair Enough, Map Of What Is Effortless, and Immolate Yourself - presented an increasingly complex and textured view of post - IDM synthetic songwriting. Then, in 2009, the sudden death of founding member Charlie Cooper seemingly ended the project forever. In the past decade, co - founder Josh Eustis has been busy. He's worked with many artists, from big names like Nine Inch Nails, Puscifer, Apparat to underground acts such as Belong, Vatican Shadow, Drab Majesty, Tropic Of Cancer. He's also had his own solo and collaborative work in Sons Of Magdalene and Second Woman. After years of reflection, Eustis felt the urge to revive TTA and create a fourth full - length album, Dreams Are Not Enough. From the opening track, “I dream of it often,” with its trembling software oscillations, the classic Telefon sound of hyper - modern design and nocturnal emotion comes back to life. The songs are distinct yet connected, telling a hidden story of loss, anger, and the passage of time. The fragmented track titles are based on a recurring dream that has haunted Eustis since he was eight. It was about a family vacation to a remote Alabama coastline. In the dream, he swims alone past the sandbar into the infinite darkness of the ocean. An eerie melancholy runs through the album, shown in its meditative pieces, modern pop, and industrial abstractions. Melodies appear and disappear, rhythms start and break. “A younger version of myself” captures the unique sadness of this TTA album, with Eustis singing about waiting and the passage of time over a hypnotic rhythm. “Standing at the bottom of the ocean” is even more minimal, with a blend of bass, chords, and voice that fades away. Eustis aimed to make Dreams Are Not Enough evoke a sense of emptiness, removing unnecessary elements to show a solitary work.

To enjoy this vinyl LP, first, make sure your record player is clean and in good working condition. Gently place the vinyl on the turntable, center it, and then lower the needle onto the lead - in groove. Sit back and let the music wash over you. When you're done listening, carefully lift the needle and return it to its rest. Store the vinyl in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and heat. Keep it in its sleeve to protect it from dust and scratches. Avoid touching the playing surface with your fingers as the oils can damage the vinyl. If you notice any dust on the record, use a record brush to gently clean it before playing.
