Earth Loop: Vinyl LP

‘Earth Loop’ is the debut album of Moon Gangs, a project by BEAK> keyboardist William Young. It will be released via Village Green Recordings. A classically - trained pianist, Young composed this album “half and half in a classical sense.” Part of it was played live on keyboards with traditional notations, and the other half was created using analogue sequencers with random voltage sources. Young says ‘Earth Loop’ mainly came from jamming with synths. He used an old Tascam 144 mixer and recorded directly to tape when things sounded good. The long live - recorded rambles were then trimmed into more concise pieces. His inspiration came from classical music, especially chamber music for strings, which is evident in the synth - based string - like sections. Recorded over a long time in various places, the album has a variety of ‘moods’ rather than documenting a specific time or place. He also incorporated processed field recordings from his growing library. Young's love for synth music started from teenage exposure to film scores like ‘Terminator’ and those by kosmische pioneers Tangerine Dream and Popol Vuh. As a child, he spent much time indoors playing video games on a Commodore 64. Games like ‘The Last Ninja’ and their soundtracks influenced him. Moon Gangs officially started in 2011 with the cassette release of ‘Sea/Sky’ on the Where To Now label. Later releases include a self - titled EP in 2014 mixed by Hookworms’ MJ and an appearance on the Blanck Mass - curated film score ‘The Strange Colour Of Your Body's Tears’.
