From 1967 to 1980, Kansas City's Forte Records captured a wide range of popular Black music. It features basement - style tunes from The Ray - Ons and Four Darlings, funky soul from Gene Williams, Lee Harris, Louis Chachere, and The Fantastiks, smooth disco ballads from James Whitney and Sharon Revoal, and the independent work of Marva Whitney, former Soul Sister #1 of James Brown. This 2LP set compiles 28 timeless tracks. It comes with plenty of photos, ephemera, and an essay, all in a heavy - weight gatefold jacket. Sides A - D are filled with great songs like Gene Williams' 'Don’t Let Your Love Fade Away' and Marva Whitney's 'Daddy Don’t Know About Sugar Bear'.
