Following their 2023 debut Magnolia, pianist Steve Okonski has reunited with long - time collaborators Aaron Frazer on drums and bassist Michael Isvara “Ish” Montgomery. Their style is reminiscent of greats like the Bad Plus, Gerald Clayton, and The Breathing Effect. Entrance Music invites you to the early hours, where songs seem to linger in the doorway before fading into the air, transitioning seamlessly to the next track. Recorded over five days at Portage Lounge, Terry Cole's studio in Loveland, OH, it was one of the first albums committed to tape there. Okonski says Terry feels like a fourth band member, thanks to his curation, energy, and production ideas. The sound created under Terry's guidance fits well with both ECM and Stones Throw catalogues. Unlike much of the debut, which resonates with Okonski's time in New York, Entrance Music has a more nature - based and ethereal feel, influenced by age, environment, and family.
