For Giuliano Gemma - starred Westerns A PISTOL FOR RINGO and THE RETURN OF RINGO, Morricone composed “Angel Face” and “The Return of Ringo”, performed by Maurizio Graf with trendy pop arrangements. In PISTOLS DON’T ARGUE (1964), he experimented with a pre - Leone sound. DEATH RIDES A HORSE (1967) has a guitar - based main theme with exotic flutes and choir. For LIFE IS TOUGH, EH PROVIDENCE, he combined religious elements for a female choir with modern arrangements. In the late Western A FIST GOES WEST (1981), Morricone himself interpreted the Indian’s screams.
