Description
Recorded at the Feb. 12, 1964 New York concert that also gave us the more balladic album My Funny Valentine, Four & More showcases the Miles Davis quintet at their peak. This less - than - a - year - old group at the time of recording mostly played at blistering tempos. The repertoire is well - balanced, including familiar hard - bop tunes like “Four” and “Walkin’”, original free - bop compositions such as “Joshua” and “Seven Steps To Heaven”, and the standard “There Is No Greater Love”. The only tune not played at supersonic speed, it electrified a sold - out Philharmonic Hall. Spurred by the rhythm section of pianist Herbie Hancock (23 at the time), bassist Ron Carter (26), and especially 18 - year - old genius drummer Tony Williams, Davis' performance, especially in the upper register, was extremely commanding. His front - line partner, tenor saxophonist George Coleman, played exceptionally well that night. Four & More is available on black vinyl with a linen - laminate sleeve. Tracklist: A1. So What; A2. Walkin’; A3. Joshua/Go - Go (Theme and Announcement); B4. Four; B5. Seven Steps To Heaven; B6. There Is No Greater Love/Go - Go (Theme and Announcement).
