Description

In 2005, when Leon Michels and El Michels Affair released 'Sounding Out The City', it was hard to predict what was next for Michels' 'cinematic soul' sound. After four EMA studio albums and numerous tribute and remix projects, while producing for industry giants, Michels has trademarked his unique sound, always taking audiences to new places. This time, he dives into hip - hop, creating a musical backdrop for the legendary Black Thought of The Roots crew. Released on Big Crown Records, 'Glorious Game' is an amazing debut partnership. Michels offers his deep, soul - tinged production, and Black Thought delivers some of his most personal and open verses. They've known each other since the 2000s. The connection between the Menahan Street Band (where Michels was a founder) and The Roots led to them doing fundraising events together. In 2020 during the COVID lockdowns, Black Thought reached out to Michels. For 'Glorious Game', Michels composed and recorded soul songs in his studio, sampled himself, and created instrumentals for Black Thought. Sometimes he used a traditional hip - hop approach with samples from others' music and added live instruments. Overall, he reinterprets his own compositions. The result is loop - based tracks with an organic feel, giving Black Thought space to shine.

To enjoy this 'Glorious Game' vinyl LP, first, make sure your record player is in good working condition. Gently place the LP on the turntable, and use the tonearm to carefully lower it onto the record. Listen closely to the deep, soul - infused hip - hop beats and Black Thought's amazing rhymes. When not in use, store the LP in its sleeve to protect it from dust and scratches. Keep it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight to maintain its quality. Don't touch the grooves with your fingers as it can cause damage. If there's dust on the record, use a proper record cleaning brush to gently clean it before playing.
