Description
One of the most iconic albums from Merseyside, 'H.M.S. Fable' is the third LP from Shack, following 'Zilch' in 1988 and 'Waterpistol' in 1995. Written by the talented brothers Michael and John Head, it's a majestic guitar - based storytelling collection. Originally released in 1999 on Laurel Records/London Records, the band then included Michael Head on vocals and acoustic guitar, John Head on electric guitar and vocals, Ren Parry on bass guitar, and Iain Templeton on drums, percussion, and backing vocals. This album was voted #2 in both NME and Uncut's critics album of the year polls, just behind The Flaming Lips’ 'The Soft Bulletin'. Now released on Shack Songs, 'H.M.S. Fable' combines various musical styles, from orchestral guitar pop to psychedelic - tinged folk and Britpop elements. NME editor Steve Sutherland gave it a 9/10 review in June 1999, saying it sounds as alive as early Liam Gallagher music. Tracks like 'Pull Together' are anthemic, 'Comedy' is tender, 'Daniella' pays homage to Arthur Lee, and 'Lend Some Dough' is a rollicking Scouse gem. The Shack story is a great music legend, showing how beautiful music can triumph over trouble and tragedy. The brothers were in The Pale Fountains in the 80s, then returned as Shack. Their journey included setbacks like the studio fire for 'Waterpistol', but they kept creating great music, including 'H.M.S. Fable'.
To enjoy your 'H.M.S. Fable' limited blue vinyl LP, first, make sure your record player is clean and in good working condition. Gently place the vinyl on the turntable, being careful not to touch the playing surface with your fingers as oils can damage it. Store the vinyl in a cool, dry place, standing it upright in a record sleeve to prevent warping. Avoid exposing it to direct sunlight or extreme temperatures, as this can affect the sound quality. Also, handle the record by the edges to keep it clean and scratch - free.
