Sundowner: Vinyl LP

In 2017 winter, I suddenly moved back to Kansas City, my hometown, from Los Angeles. At that time, I was almost done with writing my 2019 album Oh My God. I bought a Four Track Tascam model 424 from an old friend. To my surprise and excitement, this gear in my nearly empty home didn't just help finish one album, but inspired a new one - Sundowner. The new song collection flowed effortlessly. I just let the songs form on their own without much resistance or refinement. As the songs kept coming, I cleared a dormant shed in my backyard to build a makeshift studio. Then I added drums, lead guitar, and piano to complete the demos. Each day, I taught myself basic recording techniques, watching the machine light up like it was breathing. I'd emerge in the evenings as the sun set - around 5:30 in winter with icy, distant Kansan sunsets like a pink ember in a display case, and 9 o'clock in summer with warm, abstract sunsets.

Using this vinyl LP is easy. Just put it on a record player and let the music play. When handling the vinyl, make sure your hands are clean to avoid getting dirt on it. Don't touch the grooves directly. Store the vinyl in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight to prevent warping. If it gets dirty, you can use a soft, dry cloth to gently wipe the surface.
