Bartees Strange is set to release his third full - length album, Horror, on February 14, 2025. This album, following 2022’s Farm To Table, is his most ambitious and diverse project yet. Bartees Strange grew up with fear. His family used scary stories to impart life lessons, and at a young age, he watched scary movies to build inner strength. For a young, queer, black person in rural America, the world can be terrifying, and this album is about confronting those fears and evolving into a formidable presence. Throughout Horror, Strange reveals difficult truths over a unique blend of music he loved as a kid. His dad introduced him to Parliament Funkadelic, Fleetwood Mac, Teddy Pendergrass, and Neil Young. These influences combined with his love for hip - hop, country, indie rock, and house, resulting in a truly original record. Strange started working on Horror in his home studio with a focus on production. A session with Yves and Lawrence Rothman (Yves Tumor, Lady Gaga) gave a rhythmic and sonic base to parts of the album. After befriending Jack Antonoff, they collaborated on some material for Antonoff’s band Bleachers and also worked together on Horror, refining the songs from scratch, editing, arranging, and creating a sound that is bound to send shivers down your spine.
