Description

From the start, fans have adored Jensen McRae for her sharp, evocative, and clear-eyed songwriting. Her songwriting is not only vulnerable but also powerful as it holds nothing back. Now, 'I Don’t Know How But They Found Me!' showcases McRae's transformation from a promising young artist to a true songwriter and star. 'The most profound choices in my life,' McRae says, 'often felt like things I did before I was ready, and I had to grow into them.' This album is about what happens after you've withstood what you thought would crush you. It's about reaching your limits and discovering your capabilities. 'I related to the idea that I could've easily crumbled under the weight of what happened to me, but I didn't. I didn't even realize it,' she says, 'but I was invincible all along.' Born and raised in LA, Jensen McRae has spent most of her life studying and making music. She attended Grammy Camp in high school and graduated from USC’s Thornton School of Music with a degree in Popular Music. Her debut album, 'Are You Happy Now', written mostly when she was 21, was the first step in building her dedicated fanbase. 'Are You Happy Now' explores identity from its deepest roots - life as a young, bi-racial Black and Jewish woman - to its most personal musings - do I trust you, do I trust myself. McRae's self - trust has been evident many times, most notably in 'Massachusetts'. She posted a solo verse and chorus, just a demo snippet, and it went viral online. Covers, duets, and a flood of new fans followed, and she capped the moment with a finished version and a summer tour supporting Noah Kahan. 'I Don’t Know How but They Found Me!' channels McRae's considerable talent for wide appeal. The stealth single 'Savannah' is a must - listen for yearners. This pulsing, country - adjacent song brings to mind the best of Phoebe Bridgers, with McRae singing in an acrobatic whisper over a delicate acoustic guitar. By the song's crescendo, it's clear McRae has her own unique power, as piano layers with guitar and she delivers scathing indictments with grit and conviction: 'You swore you'd raise our kids to end up just like you / well you're a false prophet / and that's a goddamn promise.' Meanwhile, 'Let Me Be Wrong' is a true anthem, a 'buoyant ode to rejecting perfectionism'. Built on a simple vocal and acoustic guitar, it builds steadily in its defiance; guitars layer, drums pick up the pace, and McRae makes room for everyone's mistakes. When she growls 'fuck those girls got everything', it's a punch of both power and vulnerability, meant to be shouted in unison by a huge crowd. The unusual title of her second album comes from a line in McRae's favorite film, 'Back to the Future'. A key character survives a hail of bullets, and this image resonated with McRae as she often feels a connection to a future self guiding her decisions, especially in crises. It also inspired the album's cover, with McRae standing in a custom fireman’s coat with official marks and her own symbols stitched on. 'I was surprised how emotional it made me to be in the fire coat,' she says, 'forced to stand still, stand powerfully. I could feel myself becoming a symbol of my own hero’s journey.' If 'Are You Happy Now' was her coming - of - age, 'I Don't Know How But They Found Me!' is Jensen McRae fully grown. Tracklisting: 1. The Rearranger 2. I Can Change Him 3. Savannah 4. Daffodils 5.
