In April 2020, 'Love Is the King' was recorded at Jeff Tweedy's second home, The Loft in Chicago. Surrounded by cherished instruments and loved ones, the world outside was growing increasingly strange. This album, a 'genuinely heartfelt tribute to love and hope', follows 'WARM' in 2018 and 'WARMER' in 2019. It also comes right after Tweedy's second book, 'How to Write One Song', released on October 13th by Penguin Random House's Dutton. Tweedy said, 'At the start of the lockdown, I wrote country songs to comfort myself. Folk and country forms are the easiest for me to find comfort in. 'Guess Again' shows how I managed to push away the world and be grateful for the love in my life.' A few weeks later, the music evolved into 'Love Is the King', a bit more rough - edged with more fear seeping in. It's still full of hope but also shows the limits of self - soothing.
