Lover Man - Expanded: Vinyl 2LP

The Archie Shepp Quartet's Lover Man, featuring Annette Lowman, first came out in 1989. On this release, tenor saxophonist Shepp is joined by pianist Dave Burrell, bassist Herman Wright, drummer Stephen McCraven, and Annette Lowman on vocals. It's a wonderful album. The title track showcases Lowman's warm singing with Shepp's tenor sax in the backdrop, and there's also the band's jazzy take on Duke Ellington's 'Squeeze Me', plus 8 other great pieces. This expanded edition adds two tracks, 'Margy Pargy' and 'Tribute To Bessie Smith', previously only on CD. Side A has 'Stars Are In Your Eyes' and 'Lover Man'. Side B features 'Brand New World/Breaking A New Way' and 'Margy Pargy'. Side C includes 'My Funny Valentine', 'Lush Life', and 'Squeeze Me'. Side D has 'Yesterdays' and 'Tribute To Bessie Smith'.
