Description
Irish alt/rock group NewDad unveil their first album, MADRA, due on January 26, 2024, via Fair Youth/Atlantic. With swirling guitars and a captivating bassline, singer/guitarist Julie Dawson gets inspired by the TV show Euphoria. She reflects on the toxic relationship between Rue and Jules, a story she's drawn to. MADRA, meaning 'dog' in Irish, is an 11 - song guitar - filled album. Julie Dawson takes a journey of self - exploration, self - sabotage, and self - reflection. It delves into themes like bullying in 'Where I Go', self - medication/depression in 'Madra' and 'Let Go', destruction in 'Change My Mind' and 'White Ribbons', co - dependency in 'Nosebleed', and resistance in 'Nightmares'. The album art, shot by Irish creative Joshua Gordon, features a broken doll symbolizing fragility and vulnerability. NewDad reconnects with their musical roots, blending shoegaze/rock sounds from their early days (influenced by Pixies, The Cure, and Slownave) with indie/pop elements from their earlier works like 'Waves EP' (2021) and 'Banshee EP' (2022). Written in Galway, Ireland, before moving to London, and recorded at Rockfield Studios, it's produced by NewDad's long - time collaborator Chris Ryan and mixed by Alan Moulder. Julie's ethereal vocals carry her deep, introspective songwriting, firmly establishing NewDad as one of Ireland's most promising debut guitar bands.
To enjoy this vinyl LP, simply place it on a working turntable and use the tonearm to gently drop it on the record. Play it at the correct speed, usually 33 1/3 RPM for LPs. When handling the record, hold it by the edges to avoid fingerprints on the playing surface, as they can cause pops and clicks. After each use, put the record back in its sleeve to protect it from dust and scratches. Store the LP vertically in a cool, dry place to prevent warping. If you notice any dust on the record, use a carbon fiber brush to gently clean it before playing.
