Description
GLOK is the electronic persona of Andy Bell, famous as the guitarist of the legendary shoegaze band Ride. He's also had stints in other well - known groups and a remarkable solo career. This October, his first full - fledged album as GLOK, 'Pattern Recognition', is released by Bytes, a sister label of Ransom Note Records. Bell is usually known for guitar - based music, but his move into dance music isn't as unexpected as it seems. There are similarities between genres in terms of deep sonic layers, hypnotic sounds, and trance - like states. As he says, 'GLOK is about the push - pull between electronic and psych elements in my music.' While not a full - concept album, 'Pattern Recognition' follows a week of life from weekend to weekend. Each of the four sides of the vinyl captures different mental states during this transition. Each side has a unique feel yet is inherently cohesive, like the changes a person goes through in 7 days. Across the album, Andy skillfully combines throbbing dubbed - out acid, steamy jack trax, levitational psychedelia, sparkling Balearic, techno, Kosmische, shoegaze, art rock, and Compass Point - style post - punk, with a touch of ambient, new age, and contemporary classical music.
To enjoy this vinyl album, first, make sure your record player is clean and in good working condition. Place the vinyl gently on the turntable, and use the tonearm to carefully drop the needle onto the starting groove. As you listen, let the diverse range of music take you on a journey. When handling the vinyl, always hold it by the edges to avoid fingerprints and scratches. After each use, store the vinyl back in its sleeve and keep it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. This will help preserve the sound quality of the album for a long time.
