Description
Sometimes, even in life's most chaotic moments, things fall into place. In 2019, during a West - Coast tour, Raze Regal, a prolific electric guitarist, and James Petralli, the founding member and vocalist of Austin, TX indie - rock legends White Denim, met. Their shared love for '60s and '70s rock, the jazz saxophone innovations of Eddie Harris, Joe Henderson and Wayne Shorter, '80s R&B production techniques, and New Wave energy quickly forged a deep friendship. In another scenario, their relationship might have remained casual. But luckily for music lovers, it didn't. Afterward, both men went through intense personal change, growth, and transformation, which is reflected in the album Raze Regal & White Denim Inc. This deeply collaborative album is the result of years of hard work from both musicians, filled with soul - affirming music. Raze, speaking from his Austin home, says, 'It was a tough time for both of us.' He moved to Austin in 2020 during the pandemic, after a relationship ended and his previous band in Oakland, CA dissolved. 'This record was born from our friendship, closeness, and pure creativity.' Austin and James provided the perfect atmosphere for Raze's creativity to flourish. They started hanging out, Raze wrote some song sketches, and James encouraged him to work together. They soon realized they had something special. Their approach to music and songwriting complemented each other, making them greater than the sum of their parts. The album was created at James' studio, Radio Milk. The process was more intense than expected. James says Raze has a unique gift as a lyricist and songwriter with a vivid chord vocabulary. They developed an easy - going flow in the studio. The album Raze Regal & White Denim Inc. is bursting with jazz chords, rock hooks, soul vocals, and pop melodies, capturing the essence of late 20th - century music. It transcends 'retro' or 'throwback' labels, presenting something both familiar and fresh. The album includes tracks like 'Ashley Goudeau', 'Blood', 'Tivoli' and more.
