Description
After the release of White Lies, Mick and his band toured Ireland a lot. Mick admits the song - writing suffered due to lack of time off. When he finally took a break, he went to a studio in Killarney with Tony O’Flaherty. But with few songs, only ‘Gone Forever’ made it to the album. In January 2010, they moved to Purple Crow studios in Wexford and recorded day and night. Many songs were written there. Influential band members like bassist Brian Hassett, guitarist Hugh Dillon, violinist Karen O’Doherty, singer Yvonne Daly, and drummer Christian Best helped shape the songs. Songs like ‘Heartless Man’, ‘Ships in the Night’ came from these sessions. There were about thirty songs but still no finished album. Between recording and live shows, Mick made two trips to America. In late 2010, he went to Boston, writing ‘No Way To Live’ and ‘Boston’. In 2011, he went to Nashville, writing ‘Keepin’ Score’ and finishing the title track ‘Red to Blue’. Feeling pressure to release an album, he returned to Cork and worked with Christian Best at Monique studios. Recording finished in late November 2011 with the help of C.S.L. Parker, the Vanbrugh string quartet, and a brass section. The files were sent to Ryan Freeland, a well - known mixer and masterer, to finalize the album. Red To Blue was released on March 30th, 2012.
