Marking the 100th anniversary of Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue, Universal Music Italy offers a limited and numbered 180gm 2-LP gatefold blue vinyl edition of Chailly and Bollani’s exciting recording. Chailly combines the classical grace of the Gewandhaus Orchestra with the jazz and blues feel of the talented Milan - born jazz legend Stefano Bollani. The Rhapsody is played in Grofé’s original jazz - band version (orchestrated by Paul Whiteman) and Gershwin’s original symphonic orchestration of the Concerto, clearly showing it's an American Jazz Age concerto. Catfish Row, Gershwin’s five - movement orchestral suite from Porgy and Bess, connects the Rhapsody and the Concerto. Gershwin’s early significant work, the Broadway - inspired rag Rialto Ripples, completes the set.
