Description
Mute proudly announces the signing of Land Observations and the debut release of Roman Roads IV - XI on September 3, 2012. This is a limited - edition item, with only 350 copies worldwide. It comes on 180g heavy clear vinyl along with a bonus CD copy of the album. Land Observations is the solo project of James Brooks, which first appeared at the Short Circuit presents Mute festival in May 2011. Brooks' former band, Appliance, released four well - received albums on Mute before breaking up. Since then, Brooks has been actively involved in visual and audio art shows across the UK, North America, and Europe. He recorded a lot at his Hackney flat while trying to develop a new project alongside his visual art. Land Observations was inspired by the former Roman roads near his home. These roads, symbols of communication and conquest, stretch from the old City of London across parts of Britain, Europe, and beyond. Brooks explores minimalism through layered, repetitive electric VI string guitar, creating warm and evocative instrumentals. Although he researched Roman Roads thoroughly, this album isn't just about history. It reflects on broader ideas of travel, momentum, and progress. The album is available on CD, vinyl, and for download from Mute, with packaging featuring Brooks' original drawings. It was recorded at the Bridge and Tunnel Mobile, Berlin, and engineered and mixed by Mark Bihler and James Brooks.
