Description
This 180g heavy vinyl comes with a bonus CD copy of the album. Mute is excited to announce the signing of Land Observations and the debut release of Roman Roads IV - XI on September 3, 2012. Land Observations is the solo project of James Brooks, which first appeared at the Short Circuit presents Mute festival at the Roundhouse in May 2011. Brooks' previous band, Appliance, released four well - received albums on Mute before disbanding. Since then, Brooks has explored visual and audio art in shows across the UK, North America, and Europe. Music has always been his focus, and now he combines his concepts with instrumental compositions. Brooks did a lot of home recording in his Hackney flat while working on a new project with visual art. Land Observations was inspired by the former Roman roads near his home, roads of communication and conquest stretching from London across Britain, Europe, and beyond. Brooks uses layered, repetitive electric VI string guitar to explore minimalism and create warm, evocative instrumentals. Although he researched Roman Roads deeply, this isn't just a historical project. It reflects on travel, momentum, and progress. Roman Roads IV - XI is available on CD, vinyl, and for download, with packaging featuring Brooks' original drawings. The album was recorded in Berlin and engineered and mixed by Mark Bihler and James Brooks.
