RIYL: Jockstrap, Let’s Eat Grandma, Fischerspooner. Mermaid Chunky, an imaginative duo of visual artists and musicians Freya Tate and Moina Moin from Stroud and South London, have found like - minded communities in Stroud’s SVA and London’s Total Refreshment Centre. Their music is a collective party of dance, best enjoyed with more people, ideas, and instruments. The album's first single, “Céilí,” starts with a simple recorder line and builds into a warm major - chord dance explosion. “Chaperone” is like Fischerspooner on a ferris wheel, with boardwalk electro vibes. “Frogsporn” and “Nature Girl” are mucky, trippy dirges full of synth stalactites. “Tiny Gymnast” is a kaleidoscopic waltz into the night. DFA Records discovered Mermaid Chunky through “Friends” from their 2020 VEST EP, which led to an invitation to open for LCD at Brixton Academy in 2022. They've also played with many great artists.
