Description
In 2023, we're celebrating the 50th anniversary of David Bowie’s iconic ALADDIN SANE album. Released just ten months after his breakthrough THE RISE AND FALL OF ZIGGY STARDUST AND THE SPIDERS FROM MARS, ALADDIN SANE is a masterpiece of musical evolution. The title track and songs like ‘Panic In Detroit,' ‘Lady Grinning Soul’ and ‘Time’ show a big step forward, with the addition of brass, woodwind, soulful backing vocals and Mike Garson's unique piano playing. On April 14, 2023, a week before its Golden Jubilee, ALADDIN SANE comes as a limited - edition 50th anniversary picture disc LP. This new pressing is cut on a custom Neumann VMS80 lathe from 192kHz restored masters of the original tapes, with no extra processing. The album was preceded by two big - hit singles, ‘The Jean Genie’ and ‘Drive - In Saturday’, which reached #2 and #3 on the UK singles chart. It was Bowie's first UK album - chart topper and also made his debut on the US charts, reaching the top 20. The album cover, shot by Brian Duffy, is one of the most memorable in rock history, featuring Bowie with the iconic red - and - blue lightning - bolt makeup. Bowie described it as ‘Ziggy Goes To Washington: Ziggy under the influence of America’. This album marked the end of the Ziggy Stardust era, with the persona retiring after the final show at London’s Hammersmith Odeon in July 1973.
