The early version of Atomic Rooster, featuring Vincent Crane on organ and vocals, Nick Graham on vocals and bass, and Carl Palmer on drums, came together just in time to record its 1970 debut. Before Graham, the band's only bassist, joined at the last minute, Atomic Rooster rose from the ashes of the recently disbanded Crazy World of Arthur Brown. The music, mainly composed by Crane, is heavy and diverse. You can hear various styles, from folk - inspired pastoral tunes to bluesy horn arrangements, driving rockers, and jazzy passages. Crane's lyrics are filled with dark imagery. The album got a boost from great live shows, positive word - of - mouth, and BBC radio sessions.
