His middle name, Shigeto, passed down from his great - grandfather, means 'to grow'. Given his premature birth weight of less than a pound, it was fitting then and still suits the evolution of his artistry, nearly 15 years after signing to Ghostly. On Lineage (GI - 148, 2012), Saginaw explored an ancestral story. The artwork contrasted photos of his great - grandfather's Hiroshima home in 1916 and later at the Amache Internment Camp in Colorado, where his family was sent during WWII.
