The Bolshoi, a London - based band composed of Trevor Tanner (lead vocals, guitar), Nick Chown (bass), Jan Kalicki (drums), and Paul Clark (keyboards), released three albums during their time. However, they also recorded a fourth album, provisionally titled Country Life, which was never officially released until 2015 as part of a limited 5 - CD box set. Now, we're excited to present it on vinyl for the very first time! Country Life features demos recorded for the album. Many of these demos only survived on reference cassettes but have been digitally restored. A special highlight is Trevor Tanner's brand - new acoustic reimagining of the song “Dolores Jones” created just for this release. The Bolshoi's music was unique. Their dark and subversive songs made many critics label them 'Gothic' at their debut, but they only 'dabbled' with the Goth style. Their dark, pensive lyrics accompanied by inventive pop - goth guitar made them hard to classify. The lyrics' suburban surrealism was drawn from stories of society's fringe characters, with undertones of boredom, inadequacy, and violence - not typical pop themes. The band built a large following with their powerful live shows before disbanding in 1988. Here's the tracklisting: A1. World In Action; A2. Under the Shed; A3. What’s Your Favourite Colour; A4. Country Life; B1. We Don’t Want Him Here; B2. Boy From The Nursery World; B3. Long Tall Sally in a Black Dress; B4. Too Late; C1. Out There in the Distance; C2. Castaway; C3. Dolores Jones; C4. Yee Hee; D1. Madame Hecate; D2. Last Chance for the Slow Dance; D3. Everything Is Done for You Today; D4. Dolores Jones 2023 (Re - imagined acoustically by Trevor Tanner). Recording details: Demos in August 1988, recorded at Matrix Studios in 1987, recorded at Falconer Studios in March 1988, demos in January 1988, demo in March 1988, out - take from Lindy’s Party sessions.
